The name origin of Malolou trail stems from the old name "Malolou" of Chenggong Township. According to historical records, the Ami tribe first migrated to this area as early as the early Qing Dynasty and formed a settlement. The total length of the trail is 1.12 kilometers, with the famous Rainbow Falls (Hsin-kang Falls) located at its end. Originally serving as a local water collection path reaching below the Rainbow Falls, this trail is crucial to Chenggong Township's water intake system. Thus, its construction differs from typical hiking trails. To avoid water source pollution, it was developed strictly using ecological principles and natural materials. The trail pathway consists of untreated local materials, retaining the most natural appearance while following the terrain through eco-friendly construction techniques to create a hiking trail easily accessible to the public. At the trail entrance stands an imposing banyan tree with a chest circumference exceeding 60 cm, majestically rooted on the cliffside. Its prop roots form arch-like structures, creating an especially unique and interesting sight. As hikers follow the stream path forward, they occasionally hear "cheep~" sounds often mistaken for bird calls. However, this distinctive sound actually belongs to the Swinhoe's frog. Many novice birdwatchers are commonly confused by these frog calls, colloquially leading to the nickname "decoy bird" for this species.
