The Taian Water Wearing Grass is a national treasure-level endangered plant species. Its flowering period runs from October to February. It is endemic to Taiwan. In 2000, a local coastal ecological education park was established. The park not only cultivates the Taian Water Wearing Grass but also features other coastal plants, such as Kikumatsu, Taiwan Hibiscus, Paniculate Clerodendrum, Water Sapote, Ficus microcarpa, Premna obtusifolia, Hibiscus tiliaceus, Calophyllum inophyllum, Sea Almond, Sea Rosemary, Red Button Ginger, Indian Mulberry, Three-leaf Pueraria, Taiwan Cadamba, etc. There are dozens of species. The Taian Water Wearing Grass Ecological Education Park is located in a pond on the south bank of the Wunliau Creek in Taian District. Its main purpose is to rehabilitate and conserve this endangered plant. The Taian Water Wearing Grass is a perennial aquatic herb with an upright, four-ribbed stem covered in dense hair. Its leaves are paper-like, linear-lanceolate, and arranged oppositely. The plant produces purple flowers in a tubular shape, and its fruit is oval-cylindrical. As a rare, endemic species in Taiwan, the Water Wearing Grass is only found in the coastal wetlands of Taian, Shimizu, and Longjing Districts in Taichung City. Unfortunately, its population is extremely scarce due to habitat destruction, emphasizing the need for proper protection and rehabilitation.
