澎湖縣湖西鄉北寮村奎壁山
Simplified Chinese, Japanese, English, Korean. In the village of Beiliao in Huxi, there is a hill called Quibie Mountain, commonly known as “Turtle and Tortoise Mountain”. Later, its name was officially set to “Quibie Mountain” based on a homophonic pun. Quibie Mountain Geological Park includes Quibie Mountain and Chijiu Island. When the tide goes out, a long S‑shaped gravel road becomes visible, connecting the two places. This is a typical land‑bridge island terrain, and you can walk to Chijiu Island during low tide. On the right side of the Sea‑Foot Trail, you can see the wind turbine of Naliou Wind Farm. Follow the S‑shaped basalt gravel road, and you can walk across the land‑bridge island to Chijiu Island. This is also a great spot for watching the sunrise and stargazing. When traversing this gravel area, it is essential to calculate the tide schedule accurately. When the tide rises, the sea will gradually come up behind Chijiu Island, unseen. When the tide reaches a certain level, it will overrun both ends of the island and pinch the area. In the past, many tourists and even locals were caught off guard by the tidal characteristics and were unable to leave in time, unfortunately meeting fatal accidents! Besides calculating the local tide times, having a professional guide familiar with the local tidal characteristics is also crucial. Quibie Mountain Geological Park is rich in olivine‑bearing basalt—bamboowood stone—and sea‑erosion landscapes, both of which are very important geological features of the park. Since ancient times, Quibie Mountain has been listed among the “Eight Scenic Spots of Penghu” under the name “Quibie Lianhui”. Currently, the official regulations limit certain times for “red light stop, green light go”. The allowed area is 7.5 meters on either side of the trail’s centerline. To protect ecology, maintain the landscape, and ensure visitor safety, climbing Chijiu Island and landing on it is prohibited. In the past one or two years at Quibie Mountain Geological Park, a visitor center, public toilets, and landscape art were built. A Q‑style cartoon turtle emphasizes the origin of the place name; behind this cartoon turtle is a splash zone, and there are also some cute totem sculptures on the wall, serving as a miniature illustration of the “tide‑wave” sign of Quibie Mountain. 【Recommended visit time】 1.5 hours
