The Chiayi Old Winery, one of the five major creative cultural parks in Taiwan, is located next to Chiayi Railway Station. It was the first winery in Taiwan to produce sorghum liquor, earning Chiayi the nickname "Hometown of White Liquor". In 1916, the Japanese entrepreneur Akashi Hatsutarō founded the Taishō Seishu Stock Company Chiayi Factory, which was later confiscated in 1922 due to the implementation of a monopoly system, and was then affiliated to the Taiwan Monopoly Bureau Tainan Branch. After Taiwan's recovery, the Nationalist government continued the monopoly system, and in 1957, it was renamed "Taiwan Provincial Tobacco and Liquor Monopoly Bureau Chiayi Branch Chiayi Winery". The Chiayi Winery was relocated to Minxiong Industrial Park in 1982, leaving behind a large number of production machinery and equipment, including bottle washing machines, liquor storage tanks, bottle conveyor belts, chimneys, sorghum storage tanks, and weighing instruments, which are valuable testimonies to the winery culture. Seven buildings were designated as municipal historic sites, and the 53-meter-high boiler chimney was once one of Chiayi City's early landmarks. The site is currently undergoing restoration and reuse efforts by the Ministry of Culture, and was completed in 2013. The Chiayi Creative Cultural Industry Park is planned to become one of the five major creative cultural parks in Taiwan, with great expectations. Located in the heart of Chiayi City, the park serves as a starting point for the city's cultural facilities. It connects with the Chiayi Railway Station, Railway Warehouse Art Village, Cultural Center, Hinoki Forest Recreation Area, Forestry Club, Alishan North Gate Railway Station, and Prison History Museum, forming a shining cultural pearl necklace. The Chiayi Creative Cultural Industry Park is the largest and brightest pearl in this necklace.
