Update: Currently, visitors can enter from the west entrance to bridges 8 and 9, and proceed to the Dragon Palace Waterfall. The Zhukeng Stream Trail is located in Ruifeng Village, Meishan Township, Chiayi County. This 3.3-kilometer trail follows the Zhukeng Stream valley and was originally a charcoal path where residents would carry charcoal and goods down the mountain to sell and exchange for daily necessities. After renovation, it became the current Zhukeng Stream Trail. With its rich landscape features, it has captured the hearts of many hiking enthusiasts, and the one-way journey takes approximately 2.5 hours. The trail has a height difference of 375 meters between its two ends. If you enter from the higher east side, the initial gentle section is easy to walk, but it quickly turns into a steep downhill slope with a sharp turn into a cedar forest. This is just the beginning; after resting at a scenic pavilion and public restroom near the intersection with an industrial road, the journey down to the Zhukeng Stream valley truly begins. The area has been extensively eroded by the Zhukeng Stream, resulting in numerous bridges, canyons, cliffs, and waterfalls along the way. Between bridges 2 and 4, the trail descends along the cliffside and follows the terrain, with occasional large rocks protruding, requiring careful navigation. After crossing bridge 4, you reach areas with well-developed waterfalls, such as the "Shengmao Tree," "Dragon Palace," and "Lei Yin." The Dragon Palace and Lei Yin waterfalls, which are tributaries of the Zhukeng Stream, are situated on hard rock formations, creating a "suspended valley" type of waterfall where the tributaries are suspended above the main stream. During the rainy season or after heavy rain, the powerful waterfalls cascade down from high above, leaving onlookers in awe. Continuing downstream, the section between bridges 5 and 6 features a long wooden boardwalk, while the section before bridge 7 is a concrete staircase. A few protruding boulders create natural scenic spots along this section. Next, bridge 10 passes in front of the Lei Yin Waterfall, allowing visitors to experience the freshness of negative ions up close. From here on, the trail gradually slopes upward, with a few sections of fragile geology requiring special attention, but no significant elevation changes. Passing bridges 11 and 12 and several switchbacks, you arrive at a pavilion, restroom, and a private snack bar. You can grab a cup of coffee, try some local agricultural products, and then follow the trail through a few acres of vegetable patches and tea fields to reach the parking lot at the west entrance.
