The Prosperous Dream of Lukou Strait and the Cultural Season In the past, Lukou Strait referred to a harbor that was a strategic location and a major shipping route in Taiwan, known as the "Heavenly Peril." It was a crucial location for trade, with goods such as salt, sugar, fabrics, and other commodities being imported and exported. The Mazu (Goddess of the Sea) was revered for her protection of sailors and their journeys. However, due to natural disasters, the inner sea of Tjiang became a muddy land, and the port's functionality was lost, leading to the decline of the settlement, which eventually became a small fishing village, and the Tianhou Temple (Temple of the Goddess of the Sea) collapsed. After Taiwan's economy recovered, the temple was rebuilt to its current state. The Mazu statue in Lukou Tianhou Temple was carved from precious "Xuanzhi wood" from the mainland. The temple's exterior is majestic and imposing, showcasing traditional Chinese architectural beauty, including the dragon pillars in front of the main gate, door gods, Dougong (bracket sets), roof ridges with intricate ceramic decorations, and sculptures on the temple walls, ceiling, and corridors. These features make Lukou Tianhou Temple a place worth visiting. The Lukou Tianhou Temple hosts a Cultural Season annually from the 12th month of the lunar calendar to the 3rd month of the following year. The event is rich in content and features, divided into nine main sections: folk customs, religious beliefs, ancient fishing village customs, rural nostalgia, tracing the origins of Tjiang, citizen's square, passing down traditions, cultural camps, and cultural publications. The event combines folk art, humanistic and religious aspects, and natural ecology, featuring over 70 dynamic and static performances and exhibitions that span four months. Under the planning and preparation of the temple's management committee, the event revives people's enthusiasm, enriches their inner lives, and spirit.
