Green Island is an island formed by volcanic activity. Scholars speculate that the eastern coastline was shaped by an ancient explosive volcano, and it also contains volcanic neck remnants. Due to the differential weathering resistance between the crater walls, the surrounding geological features have been created. From Xiaochangcheng in Haishanping, a geological feature resembling a趴 dog lying on the seashore can be seen and called the "Harpago Dog Rock," while its neighboring "Sleeping Beauty Rock" is collectively known as "Sleeping Beauty and Harpago Dog." Legends about Sleeping Beauty and Harpago Dog abound and vary widely. Some say the loyal Harpago Dog guards the enchanted, sleeping Sleeping Beauty cursed by a witch. Others claim they are an affectionate couple who were turned into stone by a god for offending Him. Another version tells of a quarrel where Sleeping Beauty and Harpago Dog each sleep separately and ignore each other. A more interesting account relates that Sleeping Beauty was originally a flying fish fairy. One day, passing by Green Island, she found a stray harpago dog and transformed into human form to keep it as a companion. During one seaside play, the flying fish fairy was unexpectedly hit by wave and reverted to her original fairy shape. In defiance, the harpago dog bit her. Learning of the incident, Jade Emperor punished the fairy by transforming her into the current Sleepinig Beauty, while the harpago dog, having unintentionally bitten the fairy, was transformed into the Harpago Dog to guard her forevermore. From then on, dogs disliked eating fish.
