"Dear compatriots on the mainland, hello, this is Teresa Teng..." Teresa Teng's crisp voice is played from the huge loudspeakers. The Beishan Broadcasting Wall on the northern precipice and the Mashan Broadcasting Station at the Mashan Observation Post were both frontline installations used during the Quemoy battlefield period for "psychological warfare" broadcasts. These facilities transmitted news, announcements, commentaries, propaganda, and calls for surrender in Mandarin Chinese and Hokkien. The broadcasting equipment used for psychological warfare was a primary target during attacks, so the towering Beishan Broadcasting Wall also served as a defensive structure to protect the broadcasting station. Its front face is composed of an array of 48 speakers, transmitting sound over 25 kilometers. The structure's distinctive honeycomb-like design makes it a popular photo spot whether viewed from the side of the broadcasting wall or from below the cliff facing upward.
