The Tazhixi Historical Building was estimated to be constructed during the Japanese era, from Shouwa 12 to 15, or AD 1937–1940. It is a "Type Ding" government-designated apartment and part of the historical police residential quarters in Tazhixi. Due to its linear structure consisting of four units arranged in a row, it is known as the "Four-Unit Row House." The rear cement-built extension was added by the residents after WWII to meet new requirements and exhibits an architectural evolution representing different usage features over time. This building not only witnesses nearly a century of police administrative changes in Tazhixi but also records the living traces of its residents across different eras. In 2012 (Minguo 101), the building was officially registered as a historic structure. After renovations, it became a public exhibition hall under the Taxi Wooden Industry Museum. During its restoration, parts of the original materials and the residents' original usages were specifically preserved. The Tazhixi Historical Building is now designated as a permanent exhibition hall for the Taxi Museum of Wooden Art, themed "The Lives and History of Tazhixi Residents." Within the broader historical context, this exhibition hall combines local memories of daily life and narrates how Tazhixi evolved into a town with rich cultural heritage. In addition to static models and artifact exhibitions, it also offers dynamic visual presentations and interactive games. Going forwards, the museum will continue to collaborate with residents to conduct various investigations and curation efforts, integrating different small historical stories into the exhibition and periodically updating the stories under each theme, making the Tazhixi Historical Building a hub for sharing the stories of the local residents. The exhibition is divided into seven thematic sections. The first section, "Originated from the Dahan River," explores the environment and industries influencing the development of Tazhixi into a thriving commercial town. The second section, "Who Lived in Tazhixi," showcases the diverse settlement lives of locals across different historical periods. The third section, "Culture and Civilization of Tazhixi," highlights individuals who participated in building Tazhixi and presents the cultural and educational achievements of figures such as Lu Tiezhou and Feng Feifei. The fourth section, "Industrial Synergy," paired with the Artisan House Exhibition, provides a multi-faceted view of the wooden industry cultural aspects in Tazhixi. The fifth section, "United for the Town," re-traces the community building initiatives begun twenty years ago, and highlights how these efforts activated local participation and civic engagement that continues to this day. Within this, the sixth section, "Passing On the Tazhixi Collaborative Spirit," expresses aspirations for the future of Tazhixi. In addition, the seventh section, "Tazhixi Residents Tell Their Stories," will exhibit as a small-scale special exhibition, reflecting Tazhixi's thematic stories through the unique life histories of each local resident.
