As early as 1911, Waisha Village in Luzhu was once the terminus of a light railway! This railway had been an important transportation hub for the rural area, but with the development of public transport, the section between Nankan and Waisha was dismantled in 1957, and the station disappeared. Today, the Waisha Community Development Association has decided to revive this precious history by reconstructing the "Waisha Light Railway Station" at the end of 2011, allowing people to experience the simple, nostalgic era of the past firsthand. Tracing the history of bus transportation development in Taoyuan reveals that the era of light railways originated over a century ago. At that time, the Governor-General of Taiwan allowed the "TaoKan Light Railway Co., Ltd." (the forerunner of today's Taoyuan Bus Company) to borrow official railway tracks to construct light railways. The railways primarily transported rice and other agricultural products from the Waisha area, connecting transportation networks between Taoyuan, Linkou, and Xinzhuang. This railway was not only a vital lifeline for rural development but also a key link between residents and the outside world. An initiative to revive history: To reimagine this history, the "Waisha Rural Regeneration Course Participants" launched a reconstruction plan and successfully secured 2 million New Taiwan dollars in subsidies from the Council of Agriculture's Soil and Water Conservation Bureau. Using the funds, they built a simplified version of the light railway station and tracks in front of the Waisha Community Activity Center. This is not just a cultural revival project but also aims to stimulate rural revitalization in Waisha and help more people discover the stories of this land. A railway station that transcends time: Stepping into the reconstructed railway station, it first resembles a bicycle stop. However, once you enter the station area, the laid iron tracks and the vintage design of the station perfectly recreate the transportation scene of the rural past. The most distinctive feature is the winding tracks surrounding a pond, where the calm water reflects the surrounding houses and blue sky, forming a beautiful rural painting. An encounter with history: The Waisha Light Railway Station has now become a local landmark attraction. In addition to being an ideal site for rural educational lessons, it is also a great place for visitors to experience the charm of old railway systems. If you wish to embark on a journey through time, this railway station will take you back a century to the golden age of rural light railways!
