The renovated Shanjia Railway Station is a city-designated historic site in New Taipei City. Its Western architectural style and stucco exterior recreate the classical appearance of the Japanese colonial era, and it has unexpectedly become a popular spot for wedding photography. The exhibition hall features a miniature replica of the Shanjia Railway Station made from recycled materials, a realistic model of the Shanjia railway, a passenger timetable from the Guangfu era, and a map of railway tourism during the Japanese colonial era. The well-preserved Japanese-style station building is a must-visit for railway enthusiasts. Located in the Shulin District, the Shanjia Railway Station was established in 1901 during the Japanese colonial era, initially called "Shanzejiao Halt." It has a history of over 100 years and has undergone renovations, name changes, and the construction of the longitudinal railway. In 1962, it was renamed Shanjia Railway Station and has retained that name ever since. It is the only station building in New Taipei and Hsinchu that was built before World War II and has a special significance in Taiwan's railway architecture history. The Shanjia Railway Station played a significant role in coal transportation, as the surrounding area was one of Taipei's main coal mining districts. During its peak, the station transported up to 25,000 tons of coal. Today, visitors can still find remnants of the coal pits near the station, such as the Dafeng Coal Mine No. 1 and No. 2 pits, to catch a glimpse of Shanjia's mining history. As coal mining declined, the Shanjia Railway Station shifted to passenger services, welcoming numerous travelers. For those who want to experience railway and trail walking, Shanjia Railway Station, the closest ancient railway station to the city, offers an attractive destination. Visitors can explore the nearby Dazongshan Trail and Datong Mountain to enjoy the serene atmosphere of the mountains and forests.
