North竿 is must-visit family destination. Tang Hou Dao Beach is located next to Beigan Airport and was originally a connecting sandbar between Tang Qi Village and Hou Ao Village. The extremely fine white sand is hailed as "sugar sand," while the expansive, hundreds-of-meter-long beach resembles a oceanic plain. At high tide, the beach submerges, exposing only a narrow path; at low tide, both sides reveal gradually emerging sandy shores. This unique phenomenon of "disappearing roads at high tide and exposed beaches at low tide" formed a rare topography. However, due to the construction of Beigan Airport for improved transportation access, a road was built across the sandbar splitting it into two, leaving the once-miraculous "Sha Lian Dao" landscape non-existent. Strolling along this place today, besides feeling the soft, cool sand underfoot, you can witness aircraft taking off and landing at close-range—an ultra-rare airport scenery in the world. Be sure to allocate extra time before boarding to visit.
For up-close appreciation of the dreamlike blue tears, a highlight of North竿 is its premier viewing spot. The annual Matsu blue tears viewing period is from March to September. When waves hit shore, blue luminous glows flicker between them, mesmerizingly enchanting. As you walk among the crashing waves, glowing blue lights shimmer around your feet. Don't miss your chance to observe these beautiful blue tears—they only appear for a brief period!
