Shining with a white luminous glow, the soft, fine sand and flat coastline of Bakan Sandbeach are especially precious in Matsu, where rocky beaches dominate. Bakan Sandbeach, an open bay facing southeast, is formed annually through the accumulation of sand and mud carried by monsoon winds and ocean currents. Over time, this has created a broad flat sandy shore lying beneath the blue sky and turquoise sea. Surrounded by Qin Mountain, Bakan Mountain, and Li Mountain, Bakan Sandbeach is Matsu’s flattest and most expansive high-quality sandy beach. Connected with the neighboring Nusha Beach, it forms a continuous coastline, linked by a wooden boardwalk. The sand contains quartz, causing the entire beach to glow with a white, subtle radiance under sunlight. Whether for watching the sunrise or sunset, Bakan Sandbeach allows visitors to experience the beauty of ever-changing light, clouds, and the sea. Rolling waves gently caress the shoreline, making it ideal for swimming and beach activities, while it gradually becoming a popular spot for residents and tourists to stroll and enjoy the scenery. This beautiful, dreamlike stretch of beach lies behind the Beigan Tourist Service Center; if you visit the center, why not explore the nearby golden shoreline, step into the cool waves, and relax with a breathtaking view?
Vibrant little Bakan Matsu Temple
Though small in size, Bakan Temple is complete with all essential features. A short distance from Bakan Sandbeach toward Basha Port, this tiny Matsu Temple is reportedly the smallest and most miniature in the world. Its brightly colored facade often draws the attention of passersby, creating a strong contrast with the plain, unadorned local houses. Two adorable stone lions stand before the temple, while the eaves feature sculptures of Qianliyan (Thousand-Mile Eye) and Shunfeng'er (Wind-Ear). Though it is just a small seaside shrine, it brings a delightful surprise to visitors, becoming a visual highlight amidst the expansive beach scenery. Don’t forget to stop by for a blessing and prayer for peace and safety!
