The Pinuyumayan, part of the Puyuma eight villages, is located at the northern edge of Taitung City, just where Provincial Highway 9 approaches the Green Tunnel. A visit to Nanwang Village starts with the Nanwang Elementary School, a century-old site where doors, command platforms, colonnades, walls, and even stones within the campus are painted with traditional Puyuma tribal patterns, exuding a strong Puyuma cultural identity. Next to the school lies the Pinuyumayan Traditional Culture Center, serving as the hub for cultural activities in Nanwang Village. Inside this center are structures built using traditional techniques, including the Baragun Palakuwan, Takouvan, Ancestral House (Karmaan), a Lookout Tower, and a Wrestling Ground. The village’s annual Sea Festival in July and Grand Hunting Festival in December are held here, offering the best opportunity to observe tribal culture and serving as a prime location for photographic documentation of cultural celebrations.
