The Pingxi Branch Railway Line was originally constructed by the Taiwan Yang Mining Co. for coal transport. After the government took over, it was once slated for abandonment, but later developed into a branch line of significant tourist value. Every small station along the route is steeped in nostalgic charm. The Dahua area, now home to fewer than ten households, originally had no station; one was built in 1949 when the Dahua coal mine opened, and in 1994 it was downgraded to an unstaffed halt because of cost. Except on holidays, Dahua is usually deserted; strolling here, one can fully enjoy the sweet, fresh air and listen to nature’s symphony.
