The military ship rock is located in the mountainous area directly north of the Shipaibei Veterans General Hospital, with an elevation of 185.6 meters. The hiking trail is approximately 3 kilometers long, and the entire route is about 5.7 kilometers, taking around 2 hours and 7 minutes to complete on foot. It is a famous ridge in the Datuanshan mountain range. The prominent giant rock standing on the ridge resembles a naval vessel at sea, hence the name "Military Ship Rock." During the Japanese colonial era, it was known as one of the Uqianlian Peak along with Qiliyushan Mountain, Danfengshan Mountain, and Wujianlian Mountain. The summit's rock field is an ideal spot for rock climbing practice and a popular hiking route. The Military Ship Rock trails offer scenic views of precious old trees and natural landscapes. The top provides an expansive view, and the Academia Sinica has set up a reference point for crustal movement on the summit for research purposes. Looking to the right from the top offers a view of the ridge line and landscape from Shilin to Beitou. On the left, one can see the quiet and peaceful modern community of Wellington Villa. Danfengshan Mountain has an elevation of 210 meters and a relatively flat terrain. The environment is serene and similar to that of Military Ship Rock. The sandstone formation results in a thinner soil layer, lower water retention capacity, and a higher risk of fire. Wujianlian Mountain, with an elevation of 282 meters, was known as one of the Uqianlian Peak along with Qiliyushan Mountain, Danfengshan Mountain, and Military Ship Rock during the Japanese colonial era. The peak of Wujianlian Mountain has a wooden marker and a benchmark, NO: 2363. From here, one can see Military Ship Rock, Qiliyushan Mountain, Beitou, and Shilin areas. Hiking on the trail to Military Ship Rock offers a relaxing experience. The trail is not long and is relatively easy to hike. The neighboring Danfengyan Rock features a prominent "Danfeng" sign engraved on the rock face, making it a noticeable landmark. The trail to Military Ship Rock features stone steps and sandstone formations. The journey offers a unique experience, with sturdy and rugged rock blocks on either side of the path. There are newly constructed scenic pavilions along the way, providing rest areas for hikers. The top of Military Ship Rock provides a 360-degree panoramic view, taking in the Taipei Basin and surrounding mountains. The geological formation of Military Ship Rock dates back over 20 million years, with evidence of sedimentary rock layers. Over time, the rocks were shaped by wind and water erosion. The low elevation of Military Ship Rock belies its unique plant ecosystem. The mountain's location at the entrance of the northeast monsoon results in lower temperatures and a diverse range of plant species. The ecosystem on Danfengshan Mountain is similar to that of Military Ship Rock. However, the area has experienced forest fires in the past, resulting in restricted access to certain areas. The terrain of Danfengshan Mountain features flat trails, scenic views, and a variety of plant species, including Japanese black pine trees. The area offers a serene and peaceful atmosphere, making it a popular hiking destination.
