宜蘭縣蘇澳鎮蘇花公路起點旁
Fort Sanjian is located on Suhua Highway, with an elevation of about 200 meters. In the 15th year of Emperor Guangxu's reign, the Qing court established two coastal defense fortresses and barracks here in response to the French army's intention to invade Su'ao. The mountain got its name from this. Not only did the Qing army set up fortresses here, but on the mountain there are also the ruins of the "Konnō Byōjin Shrine" built during the Japanese rule. Konnō Byōjin in Japan is the guardian deity of maritime transportation. Captains and shipyards would come to pray for safe navigation before a ship was launched. The current fortress was rebuilt on the foundation of the old one. A pair of stone lanterns of Konnō Byōjin were moved to the entrance of the Tianguan Temple on the mountain. Although the old ruins no longer exist, there are still lush and vigorous ancient banyan trees with gnarled branches. The pavilion provides a cool respite from the heat under its vast canopy. Looking east, the view is broad and unobstructed. The entire Su'ao Harbor can be seen.
