Sanpatsoh Station (Old Sanpatsoh Station) commenced operations in February of Meiji 41 (1908). The station managed both passenger and freight services, with freight transportation as its primary role, particularly making significant contributions to the shipment of finished goods produced by Taiwan Ketai Co., Ltd. located to its north. Overall, Sanpatsoh Station could be considered the second most important railroad station in Kaohsiung after the Old Takao Station (current Kaohsiung Harbor Station) before the official opening of the present Kaohsiung Station in June Showa 16 (1941). The preserved station building was completed in Taisho 12 (1923), a Japanese-style wooden structure. With the relocation of Zhongdu industries, Old Sanpatsoh Station was decommissioned in 1986. In 2004, Kaohsiung City Cultural Affairs Bureau designated Old Sanpatsoh Station as a city-designated historic site. In 2008, due to the aging and deteriorating state of the station, Taiwan Railway Administration decided to undertake restoration works, which were completed in 2012. The old station is about 50 meters away from the new station.
