In November 2016, two girls who had studied together in the art department returned to Chiayi City from their respective work cities and opened “Riqing Savory Pie” in a small alley downtown. The name “Riqing” comes from a team name chosen by the two avid hikers, meaning “praying for sunny days every day on the mountain.”
With their art-school background, the two have their own unique vision for every detail of the interior. Refusing to be boxed into any prescribed style, they painted the walls themselves, arranged shelves of charming knick-knacks and tableware, and dotted the space with beloved miniature models. Every overlooked corner carries their care and ingenuity. The aesthetic of Riqing Savory Pie cannot be categorized or copied; it springs solely from the boundless, unfettered imagination of these two girls.
Another passion they share is a love of savory pies and scones. After tasting versions from around Taiwan and abroad, they realized the finest flavor is the care and purity a mother puts into food for her family. So they rolled up their sleeves and plunged into a world of flour and butter, aiming to offer every guest food that is delicious, reassuring, and healthy—just like cooking for family.
Even when the complexity of pie-making once tempted them to give up, seeing guests’ satisfied smiles and relaxed enjoyment of wholesome, natural dishes reminded them of their original wish: to let people savor life in the present. Whether sunny or rainy, Riqing will keep serving warming flavors in Chiayi City for all the days ahead.
