This studio nestled in the misty mountains has a beautiful name: "Bai." In the Rukai language, "Bai" is an affectionate term for a woman, carrying the meaning of "dear." It is a women’s workshop that began producing traditional Rukai ceramic beads after the Morak windstorm. The Morak windstorm not only devastated the lives of people in Jia-lan but also severely impacted its culture. The women felt that the village’s culture was being lost due to the windstorm, and to revitalize local industry, they established the Jia‑lan Bai Workshop in the Jia‑lan community. Thus, a group of mothers living in the village started creating handcrafted ceramic beads. They set up a workshop‑like creative platform, and under the guidance of Wu Shulun, a long‑time researcher of Rukai culture, they began exploring the cultural creativity of the ceramic bead workshop and launched research into product design. Step by step, they produced exquisite ceramic bead crafts infused with the spirit of indigenous culture.
