Tai-Ping Ancient Farmhouse Museum officially opened on October 17, 2000, and is located within Che-Lun-Pu Ding-Ping Park. The traditional Taiwanese artifacts on display are the lifelong collection of the museum's founder, Mr. Chang You-Ji. To preserve the fading cultural heritage of Taiwan and to share the wisdom of our ancestors with the public, Mr. Chang generously donated his collection to the Taichung City Taitung District Office. The museum's main building is designed in the traditional three-sided courtyard farmhouse-style architecture. Inside, there are 10 themed exhibition areas. The central hall is dedicated to the ancestral shrine, while the side halls feature bedrooms, bridal dowry and baby items, and a kitchen display area. The side wings of the courtyard showcase exhibits such as clothing, tableware, appliances, and agricultural tools. At the entrance of the courtyard's exhibition area, a traditional pharmacy and a citrus shop have been set up for retail. Due to the vast number of artifacts, the museum operates on a rotating exhibition system. The museum offers visitors a place to reminisce about the folk customs and rural sentiments of the past. Within Ding-Ping Park, dozens of maple trees, each reaching up to 15 meters in height, create a picturesque landscape that changes with the seasons. Combined with the classic charm of the museum, the scene forms an idyllic tableau. For someone born and raised in a rural farming family, the details of farm life are unforgettable, especially considering the hardships faced by large families in Taiwanese society during the 1920s and 1930s. Our ancestors endured a life of toil and sweat, working tirelessly from dawn till dusk, striving to provide for their families and ensure three meals a day. It is clear that the quality of life during the agricultural era cannot be compared to the advancements of modern technology today. (This text is excerpted from the Taiping Ancient Farmhouse Museum.)
