The island of Dàgōu (大倉嶼) is located at the center of Penghu and is surrounded by Penghu Main Island, Baisha Island, and Yong'an Island. It is known as the “Pearl of the Inner Sea” and is classified as a secondary island. Visitors can explore the entire island on foot or by bicycle. The terrain rises from north to south, with steep basalt cliffs on the northeastern side and gentle slopes that slope into the sea on the southwestern side. The island is surrounded by intertidal zones and coastal erosion platforms.
Around the island, you can view attractions such as the Mǎgōng Guānyīn Pavilion, Baisha Zhongtun wind turbines, and the Xiaoshi Cross-Sea Bridge, or head to the western side of Dàgōu Fishing Harbor where the unique milky-white shell beaches of the Penghu archipelago invite visitors to splash and play—one of the must‑visit spots for tourists. The surrounding wide coastal erosion platforms have a huge difference in area between high and low tide, offering rich intertidal marine resources. Tourists can enjoy the fun of fishing and crab‑catching here.
Life on Dàgōu Island is simple; all daily necessities must be brought over from Mǎgōng Main Island. Due to outmigration, Dàgōu Elementary School closed in August 2005. Today, the island’s education and daily life are closely tied to Mǎgōng Main Island.
