高雄市鼓山區蓬萊路17號(七賢三路底)
The site was originally constructed by the Japanese in the third year of the Taishō period (1914) as a warehouse for storing sugar intended for export. For a century since its construction, the interior was not equipped with any supporting piers, showcasing a grand-spanning architectural structure of historical significance regarding both architectural history and technical evolution. It stands today as the largest preserved and revitalized historic warehouse in Taiwan. During World War II, the facility suffered damage from American bombing, and the Nationalist government undertook reconstruction in 1962 using reinforced concrete columns, steel roof trusses, and brick walls. The present landscape and the remaining warehouse structure still reflect its original role as a crucial hub connecting rail to maritime transport, bearing witness to Taiwan’s era of rapid economic prosperity. In 2003, Kaohsiung City Government officially designated it as a historic building. During the subsequent revitalization and restoration of this historic structure known as Zhann Eiru Ko, care was taken to retain its historical architectural elements such as old walls and windows, preserving the building’s original, humble aesthetic. The visually iconic "Zhann Qian House Plaza," a popular photo spot, uses truss-structured design as a symbolic representation of the building's original 24-meter-long form lost over time. The spirit of the site — a launchpad for Taiwan’s craftsmen and brands — is embodied by "zhann" meaning to unite, to depart, to achieve. Within its 3,000-square-meter elevated space, the site gathers master craftsmen and representative brands from across Taiwan in a historical environment blending old and new. Together, they collaborate in creating and achieving dreams, transforming the harbor area into an experience offering scenic waterfront shopping and leisure. In the interior, the "Da-shu dining space" area in the preserved wall section provides tranquil comfort for meals. The exhibition hall's row of floor-to-ceiling windows draws the warehouse closer to the sea view. Zhann Eiru Ko now embraces a contemporary identity through integrated cultural and creative operations, including exhibitions and restaurants, thus breathing new life into coastal historical sites. Located at the white-painted cultural harbor-side complex are a unique white carousel and white balloon-flying wheel. The only all-white carousel in Taiwan rests there, while the adjacent white balloon wheel allows visitors to ascend for breathtaking sea views. The monochromatic white theme evokes excitement among many young women, making it a highly sought-after photo spot. Whether in daylight or at night, the experience is perfect — the harbor breeze tastes sweet.
