The "Jiayi Meishan Qianlong Minfan Boundary Monument", located on the highway from Provincial Highway 162 to Taiping Village, turn left at the sign marked "32 bends" and proceed about 800 meters on the local industry road, you can see the monument standing. The Minfan Boundary Monument was erected to define the boundary between mountainous and plains areas after the Qing Kangxi period. Originally there were 6 monuments; however, the Meishan Minfan Boundary Monument is the only one that remains. At the end of the Kangxi era, the area along the mountains of Jiayi was still the domain of the indigenous peoples. At the beginning of the Yongzheng era, there were no aborigines living in Meishan, which made it an attractive location for Han Chinese to settle.
Since the Zheng regime, the first batch of Han Chinese immigrants arrived in Taiwan, and established settlements and farmed the fertile plains of Jiannan. These early immigrants attracted more people to move to Taiwan. Therefore, by this time, the immigrants who crossed the ocean from their hometowns to Taiwan had gradually moved into the mountainous areas of Jiayi, causing the living space of the indigenous peoples to shrink, and their previous rights and interests to be affected.
