Qingcaocha originated from the Lingnan region of mainland China. Due to the hot and rainy climate, which often brought miasma, people collected medicinal herbs from the mountains and brewed them into water for drinking, based on the effects recorded in ancient texts, in order to dispel heat and remove dampness. After some immigrants came to Taiwan, they improved the formula by adding local herbal plants in Taiwan, making it suitable for the climate of Taiwan and for health preservation. At that time, Western medicine was not yet widespread in Taiwan, and common people often relied on herbal shops to prepare medicines for them. Each herbal shop usually had a few secret family recipes for boiling and stewing, serving as a health care institution for ordinary people. Many herbal shops were born by relying on temples and markets. The development of Minle Street and the two herbal shops of Yao Dehe have a history of more than a century. They specialize in Qingcaocha, Mau Gen Cha, and bitter tea. Although the names are the same, the formulas vary, so each has loyal regular customers. The natural herbal fragrance is rich, and a cup of it brings a refreshing coolness.
