The Ruisui Township of today is also known by some residents as the "hot spring township," due to the recent consecutive developments of over thirty hot spring wells in the Ruixiang Village, prompting many original farmers and livestock breeders to shift their focus toward the hot spring recreational industry. The Hualien County Government has entrusted the National Hsueh-feng Range Scenic Area Management Office with long-term planning for the Ruisui Hot Springs Tourism Area. Under the implementation of the National Hot Spring Act, a total regional hot spring management system has been adopted for the area to assist the existing hot spring businesses, upgrading roads, drainage systems, recreation services, and related public facilities. This has significantly rejuvenated the previous landscape of the Ruisui hot springs area and indirectly stimulated local inns and catering businesses to flourish like mushrooms after a spring rain. Several larger-scale hot spring recreation parks have been developed, including Huaye Hot Spring, Huangjia Hot Spring, and Tohokusho Village. The spring temperatures of these hot springs mostly range from 43 to 48 degrees Celsius, the pH level of carbonate mineral springs is about 6 to 7, characterized as weak alkaline. The hot springs are naturally upwelled from groundwater; due to containing rich minerals like iron and barium, the water shows rusty yellow or rusty red colors and has a thick layer of mineral on the surface, known as "hot spring flowers." These springs are highly beneficial for health and wellness. It is reported that some discerning Japanese hot spring visitors will even specially travel to Ruisui for soaking experiences.
