Antong Hot Springs are situated by the Antong Creek in Yuli Town, nestled within secluded valleys and lush mountain forests, offering exceptionally beautiful scenery. Antong Hot Springs have long been celebrated as "Antong Thermal Waters," listed as one of the Eight Sights of Hualien. The water temperature of Antong Hot Springs ranges between 60-70°C, and its mineral composition is a weakly alkaline chloride sulfate spring. The clear, nearly transparent water carries a faint sulfur scent. With a generous flow, thermal vents run along Antong Creek for approximately 200-300 meters. In 1904, a Japanese man collecting camphor in the mountains discovered thermal springs near Antong Creek. By 1930, the Japanese built a police guesthouse here, which served as the Hualien Prefect’s residence and included public bathing facilities, gradually transforming the area into a hot spring destination. After the Handover period in 1945, private entrepreneurs purchased the property and renovated it into the Antong Hot Springs Grand Hostel. The entrepreneur preserved the wooden, low-rise buildings constructed during the Japanese colonial era. The Cultural Construction Council designated this tatami-covered Japanese-style bungalow as a historic site, making Antong a historically significant and nostalgic hot spring destination. In the Antong area, several hot spring hotels offer bathing facilities for guests, including outdoor hot pool spas, private personal bathhouses, and family-style bathing rooms, providing a relaxing soaking experience. Yuli Town Government has constructed 3 free public outdoor hot spring pools by the creek, complete with changing rooms. Around the Antong Creek, there are also numerous natural hot springs; local farmers have dug simple pools by the creek for communal bathing.
