Yingge Ceramic Old Street

2016-08-25
"The Yingge Ceramics Old Street" generally refers to areas around Wenhua Road, Jianshanpu Road and Chongqing Street in Yingge District, New Taipei City. This area is the earliest hub for the ceramics industry in Yingge, where a ceramic process history of over 200 years has accumulated. In the early days, numerous ceramic kilns were densely built, as the clay soil zone was adjacent to Jianshan, making Yingge a renowned center for ceramic production known nationwide with a reputation as "Taiwan's Jingdezhen".

The formal naming of the "Yingge Ceramics Old Street" occurred in the year 89th year of the Republic of China (2000). After the planning and guidance by New Taipei City Government, the originally dilapidated ceramic workshops on both sides of the old street were transformed into commercial premises. Walking along the old street, one can find shops including ceramic tableware specialist stores, ceramic artists' studios, established ceramic stores in Yingge, ceramic art exhibition centers, ceramic DIY classrooms, and factory-operated stores, all uniquely themed around "ceramics." Exhibited products within the stores include antique-style porcelain, crystal glaze, Wen Zhi pottery, ceramic tea sets, ceramic tableware, ocarinas and other ceramic products that combine practicality and artistic value.
