「Taoyuan 77 Art Town」, formerly the Japanese-style dormitory compound of the Taoyuan Police Office, is located within the commercial district near Taoyuan Train Station and has been designated as a historic building. After renovation by the municipal government, it was revitalized into a cultural and creative park, becoming one of the most popular photo-taking spots in Taoyuan. The Japanese-style police dormitory buildings, situated in the old town area of Taoyuan since the Japanese colonial era through the post-war era, historically combined elements of a commercial, cultural, and administrative center. Three years ago, the municipal government decided to "restore as original" to revive the dormitory complex, preserving the historical appearance of the Japanese wooden structures. The revitalized 「Taoyuan 77 Art Town」 combines the architecture of the Japanese colonial period with the meaning of Zhongzheng Road’s Lane 77, and its name was chosen through public voting. The park features diverse zones and exhibitions, including Xiao Mei (Cultural Merchandise Stores), Handcraft (Workshop Experience Classes), Liu Yi (Exhibition Workshops), Police Bureau (Service Center, Administrative Office), Blessing Pavilion (Performance & Rest Area), 77 Taoyuan Market (Weekend Market), and Chengzhen Coffee (Famous Chain Casual Dining Restaurant). Though the area is not large, it serves as a culturally rich garden space nestled within the bustling commercial heart of Taoyuan City. On a fresh afternoon, taking a leisurely walk filled with traditional Japanese-style serenity is particularly pleasant. (Text and image source: Taoyuan 77 Art Town)
