"Zhang Lianchang Saxophone" aims to build a century-old enterprise, continuously growing and developing to become a sustainably operated company, contributing to societal development. Family Background Mr. Zhang Lianchang was born on December 10, 1913, the fifth child in a farming family in Houli Dunan Village. At the age of 21, he married Madam Hu and had two sons and four daughters. He worked as a draftsman but later wandered away to avoid conscription by the Japanese military, making a living by performing. After Taiwan's liberation, at the age of 32, he dedicated himself to musical instrument production and, at 35, created the first saxophone in Taiwan, beginning the legend of Taiwan's saxophone hometown. Mr. Zhang passed away in January 1986 at the age of 73. The Path of Painting and Aesthetic Cultivation From a young age, Mr. Zhang showed great interest and talent in the arts, unbound by the societal norms that dictated men should work in agriculture. At the age of 13, he followed a master from Tangshan, China, residing in Dajia, to study gongbi painting and mounting. Later, he went to Taipei for rigorous painting training and later made a living from it. These experiences deeply cultivated Mr. Zhang's aesthetic sense and accumulated his artistic foundation, fostering his focus and perseverance. Immersed in Music, Enchanted by the Charm of Melodies In his youth, Mr. Zhang was skilled in calligraphy and painting and loved music. He learned to play the trumpet and saxophone from a local man nicknamed "Black India," whose real name has been forgotten. From then on, he became passionate about playing musical instruments. In 1945, Mr. Zhang and a group of local music enthusiasts formed a jazz band. The band members had a solid foundation in music theory and skilled performance techniques, creating a sensation with their performances across the region, gaining widespread fame. Later, while producing instruments, Mr. Zhang also taught apprentices in the factory to play instruments. Some apprentices went on to study professional performance under Mr. Zhang. With the advent of television, many of the TV station's musicians came from Houli, and the reputation of "musicians from Houli" spread far and wide!
