“Sanzhi Tianxinzi” lies 4.5 km along North Route 8. Thanks to its unique wetland scenery, it has become a dream-like secret corner of greater Taipei. Paddy fields mirror distant mountains, green trees, and sky; where water and heavens meet, shifting weather paints many moods. On clear days the surface floats blue sky and white clouds; under overcast skies, mist drifts in quiet depth; at sunset, golden afterglow turns the mirror-like lake into a living painting. Photographers flock here at dawn and dusk, letting sunlight spill across the water, chasing light and shadow to calm the soul.
Once long-abandoned farmland, the site was reborn through the Soil & Water Conservation Bureau’s rural regeneration program. Lotus was first planted but failed against weather and apple snails; after removal, the empty ponds revealed a new beauty that soon drew visitors. The “Sanzhi Letian Community Tianxinzi Farmland Promenade Improvement Project” won the 2021 Environmental Beautification Award and the Ecological Engineering Excellence Award from the Chinese Institute of Civil & Hydraulic Engineering. Dry-stack stone revetments replaced concrete, lessening disturbance and protecting Tianxinzi’s rich diversity, completing this seamless blend of water and sky.
