The Alishan Forest Railway starts at Beimen Station in Chiayi City, making it the gateway to Alishan. In the early days, the Alishan Forest Railway transported logs down the mountain to Chiayi City, which led to the thriving of the lumber industry and timber processing factories around Beimen Station. This created a bustling scene and drove the development of nearby businesses. The Japanese-style houses built around that time used cypress wood as their primary building material, which is a distinctive feature of Japanese architecture and a historical testament to Alishan's forestry development. The Huajian Village, which is now known as the Alishan Huajian Village, has an operational area of 3.4 hectares, primarily on both sides of Lin-sen East Road. The northern part of the village was originally a dormitory complex for Japanese lower-ranking staff, while the southern part was for higher-ranking officials. After more than 60 years, the village has been restored using traditional Japanese construction methods and original materials, preserving 29 historical wooden structures. Following a four-year renovation, the village has been revitalized to its former glory. This is not only Taiwan's earliest forestry village but also the most well-preserved and extensive Japanese-style official residence complex. The Chiayi City-designated historic site, the Forestry Club, was built around 1914 as a recreational venue for the Taiwan Governor-General's Office Forestry Bureau. The architectural style mimics 17th-century British Tudor architecture, with an indoor area of approximately 75 pings. In 1946, it was used as the Forestry Administration Office's auditorium, and in 1948, it was converted into the Zhongxiao Kindergarten. From 1984 to 1987, it was borrowed by the Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau's Chiayi County Investigation Station for office use. Today, it is a Chiayi City-designated historic site, carrying the memories of forestry history. The "Forest Market" has been transformed from the "One Heart, Two Leaves" exhibit, cooperating with over 100 brands and agricultural cooperatives across Taiwan, providing high-quality products directly from the source. They have also partnered with the agricultural lifestyle magazine "Xiangjian Xiaolu," which has over 40 years of experience. Through fascinating stories of farmers, they curate agricultural products that touch consumers' hearts. The exhibition will feature displays created from the magazine's content, allowing consumers to resonate with the agricultural products and create an experience that moves them closer to the land.
