The Liu Kui Great Buddha, also known as the Liu Kui Rainbow Mountain Buddha, is located in the Xin Kai tribal area of Liu Kui District near the famous Bu Lao Hot Spring. The Buddha statue stands 24 meters tall and weighs 167 tons, facing the beautiful Lao Nong River meandering ahead and backed by the mighty Central Mountain Ranges. The natural scenery enhances the peaceful and solemn appearance of the Buddha, creating an impressive sight at close range. The initially quiet park initially became an internet sensation when photography enthusiasts, using creative angles, captured a photo of the Liu Kui Buddha together with the "First Hand Under Heaven" at the entrance, inadvertently transforming it into a well-known photo spot in Liu Kui and attracting many visitors.
During the construction of the Buddha, a worker accidentally fell from the statue's head, plummeting about 16 meters before hitting the Buddha's hand. Initially seriously injured, the worker miraculously recovered after several days of treatment. This event became known as a miracle, prompting the addition of another life-sized Buddha hand, the "First Hand Under Heaven," at the entrance for visitors to take photos and pray for safety. Inside the bronze body of the Buddha, visitors can tour the interior, and on the first sub-level, there is a nearly seven-ton jadeite stone, regarded as the treasure of the mountain. It is said that touching this jadeite stone brings good luck. A second-level viewing area allows visitors to admire the internal steel structure of the Buddha. Behind the statue, a corridor enshrines 12 zodiac guardian deities, with patrons offering incense to match their zodiac signs for prayers. Construction of the Liu Kui Great Buddha began in 2000 and took 15 years to complete, enduring a direct hit during the Morakot typhoon. The Buddha blocked rolling debris and protected the village below. Even today, one can still see the scars of the landslide behind the Buddha and many stories of divine miracles, whether or not they should be believed. Regardless of the truthfulness of these stories, the site stands as a serene and peaceful retreat.
