Valkyrie, Time Corridor

2024-04-11
On the central dividing island on the west side of Renai Boulevard and Dunhua North Road stands the public art piece titled "Valkyrie, Corridor of Time." The holy Valkyrie, majestically riding a horse with a tall figure of seven feet, is contrasted by an iron cage nearby labeled Corridor of Time. This strong contrast highlights the concept of "time lag" — all beautiful things in the world exist within the time lag of memory. All beings are bound by time's constraints, yet the Corridor of Time seems to have temporarily paused a single moment.
This is a work by Professor Deng Jen-ping from the Department of Fine Arts at National Taipei University of the Arts. He believed that placing an art piece on a triangular safety island could add more variations to the otherwise cold triangular area. In 2003 when the government began promoting public art, he devoted himself fully to creation. Many of his excellent works appeared, such as "Spiral Penetration" and "Country Knight," while "Valkyrie, Corridor of Time" is one of his masterpieces.

In the streets of Taipei, there are many such places where turning around a corner leads to an encounter with art.
