The Kilamay tribe is located in Fengnan Village, Fuxi Township, the southernmost part of Hualien County, where most of the residents are the Amis people. The original traditional crop was upland rice, but the cultivation techniques of wet rice were introduced during the Qing Dynasty and Japanese colonial periods. The rice variety grown here was of such high quality that it became the imperial tributes for the Emperor during the Japanese colonial era. A short section of Fudong Highway leading to Jihlarai is nicknamed "Little Tienhsiang" due to its similar scenery to the canyon landscapes along the Central Cross-Island Highway (Zhongheng Highway).
