The original recreational area of Ban Tian Yan was limited to the vicinity of Zi Yun Temple and Sheng Long Guan Yin Square. In 2009, the Alishan National Scenic Area Management Bureau connected the nearby farm roads and built pavilions and other facilities, creating this hiking trail. The two ends of the trail are located at "Shi Tou Gong Park" on the west side and the intersection of County Road 159-A and Township Road Jia 124 on the east side.
Starting from Shi Tou Gong Park, the trail first passes through "Cai Cuo", a settlement composed of families with the surname Cai. The simple and rustic rural atmosphere gives one the feeling of returning to a bygone era. Walking along the farm road that extends into the mountains, one sees fruit trees such as persimmons and citrus trees, presenting a beautiful rural landscape.
The trail features a rich variety of low-altitude secondary forests, broadleaf trees, and later-stage plantations of maple and cedar. The trail also showcases lush vegetation, including Iris setosa, and crape myrtle, as well as the vibrant sounds of insects and birds.
After passing through several gently ascending bends, one arrives at "Luo Han Plaza", where 18 Arhats are displayed in various poses and expressions, illustrating their respective stories and allusions. Continuing on, one comes to a rest pavilion and observation platform with a distant view of the plain, and then descends a wooden staircase to reach the other end of the trail, completing the journey.
