In November 2016, two girls who had previously studied fine arts together returned to Chiayi City from their respective workplaces to open "Ri Qing Savory Pies" in a quiet alley of the city center. The name "Ri Qing" comes from a team name the two mountaineering enthusiasts chose, carrying the meaning of praying for clear skies every day of their climbs. Due to their fine arts backgrounds, the two are committed to their own unique design for all the store interiors. Disliking any rigid style, they painted the walls themselves, individually arranged a variety of small goods and charming tableware on shelves, and adorned the store with handcrafted models cherished by them, making every unassuming corner of the store reflect their creativity and effort. The aesthetic of Ri Qing Savory Pies cannot be categorized or replicated, since it all arises from the unrestrained imagination of these two girls. Another shared trait between the two friends is their enthusiasm for savory pies and scones. After trying savory pies and scones from various domestic and international locations, they discovered the most delightful flavors come from the care and purity a mother puts into meals for her family. Thus, they rolled up their sleeves and plunged into the world of flour and butter, determined to provide every guest who visits the store with delicious, safe and wholesome food akin to what one would receive from a family meal. Despite once nearly abandoning their pursuit due to the pie-making complexities, witnessing patrons’ contentment after enjoying their food and experiencing the relaxed leisure within the store, savoring naturally healthy meals and truly appreciating life in the moment—their mission of creating warmth and quality has always been central to Ri Qing. Now and in every future day spent in Chiayi, whether sunny or rainy, they will continue offering these heartwarming flavors.
