Cloud Table Mountain (Yuntai Mountain) in Nangang, Matsu is the region's highest peak at an elevation of 248 meters. It ranks as the 98th among Taiwan's 100 Small Famous Mountains and offers the best vantage point for overlooking Matsu Islands and Beijiao Peninsula on the Chinese mainland.
In 1996, the Matsu Defense Command headquarters was established here to analyze Matsu's strategic situation and monitor enemy troop movements at the time, aiming to strengthen military personnel's awareness of enemy conditions. Considering the development of Matsu's tourism in 2009, all sensitive data within the headquarters underwent screening and relocation under the Statutes for the Protection of State Secrets, and the Matsu Management Office (MCO) was authorized to renovate the former command center. Visitors were subsequently granted access starting November 7, 2010.
Note: These military-related scenic spots are restricted to original residents of Matsu. Both group applicants (tourist groups, companies, or government agencies) and individual visitors (private travelers and backpackers) must have their ID cards verified by guards and complete the application process to enter. Certain areas are off-limits for photography.
