Jiantan Mountain, with an altitude of 153 meters, is located in the Shilin District of Taipei City, within the Yuanshan Scenic Area. It is the northern ridge of the Yuanshan Hotel's back mountain, and also the closest small mountain to the city center in Taipei. By slowly walking along the ridge trail, you can reach other mountains, making it almost a relaxed and easy hike. It has a significant advantage in terms of convenient transportation. Jiantan Mountain's mountain trail The trail entrance is near the Jiantan Bus Stop on the fourth segment of Zhongshan North Road. This area was once a military restricted area and security forest, so the natural forest and ecological plants are well preserved. Along the trail, there are many artificially planted vegetation and economic plants, giving the trail a lush green charm. This trail has become a popular place for morning exercise and fitness among the citizens. For example, the "Old Place" located on the ridge is a well-known fitness spot. Along the trail, you can enjoy the scenery of Yuanshan Hotel and the Keelung River Park. The trail ends at Tongbei Street Lane 165 and Beian Road intersection in Dazhi, making it an easy and gentle suburban trail. Jiantan Mountain becomes more beautiful at night The night view of Jiantan Mountain's mountain trail has always been very popular. Of course, it has its unique charm. From the highest point, you can enjoy the dazzling city lights and night scenery. Occasionally, you can see planes flying low over the starry sky, which always excites hikers and makes them talk about it. Combined with the delicacies of the Shilin Night Market, the number of people walking at night here is even more than during the day or in the morning. This is probably why it becomes more beautiful and lively at night! Taipei's Heart, Surrounded by Mountains Hiking is actually not difficult, especially when starting from Jiantan Mountain. From the Jiantan MRT station, you can easily find the trail entrance. If you take the bus, the entrance is right next to the Jiantan Bus Stop. Just climb the steps, and you can reach the green forest. Looking around, the trail is lined with rest areas or pavilions. You can walk and stop as you like, and you can easily complete your first experience on the trail. Jiantan Mountain is the closest small mountain to the city center among the 20 mountain trails introduced in this book. You must be familiar with it. Whether you are taking the MRT's Banxia Line towards Banxia or entering the city via the highway, you will see the mountain where the luxurious Yuanshan Hotel is located. The green and continuous mountain range is Jiantan Mountain. Because this area used to be a military restricted area and security forest, the natural forest has been well preserved, with dense trees along the entire trail. The trees are free from human interference, showing their most beautiful forms. The species living here can also live comfortably. Looking up, you might even see squirrels jumping between the trees. The five-colored birds, with their colorful feathers, and the small green eye birds are also common birds here. Although the military restrictions have been lifted, the original mountain forest has changed due to human development. Along the trail, there are many artificial garden plants or economic plants, yet the charm of the lush green mountain path remains. Now, Jiantan Mountain has become one of the important places for morning exercise and fitness among the citizens of Taipei. The "Old Place" on the ridge is a well-known fitness spot. Along the trail, various early morning groups, hikers' clubs, and badminton societies are lined up beside the trail, forming a surprising and remarkable sight. It is like an urban park built in the mountains, or like the people's "outdoor living room." Senior citizens regard it as a Karaoke club, some sing passionately, others play mahjong, and of course, chatting and tea drinking are also common. After becoming "popular," Jiantan Mountain is truly very lively. Reaching the Sky, Enjoying the Scenery It is an unforgettable hiking experience to keep moving forward amid the songs, and compared to the continuous cicada sounds on the trail, it is hard to say who will win. Leaving aside such a strange scene, don't forget to enjoy the beautiful scenery around you. One of the highlights of hiking Jiantan Mountain is the opportunity to stand on the mountain and enjoy the view of the planes taking off and landing. Heading towards the Shih Chien University, there is a scenic spot called "Aircraft Viewing Platform" by hikers. The view is wide open with no obstructions, and it will definitely make you excited. If you go to the wooden boardwalk near the mountain top, the scenery will be even more abundant. The visual focus is the uniquely designed Dazhi Bridge and the eye-catching Taipei 101. The entire view of the Dajia Riverfront Park is visible here. The green riverfront park formed by the river's bend, the "Hope Fountain" that sprays water for half an hour on the hour, the first fishing rod-style cable-stayed bridge in Taipei, the Dazhi Bridge, and the command platform and surrounding square for the dragon boat races every year are all visible. Stopping to enjoy the view brings a sense of relaxation and joy. Of course, the Yuanshan Grand Hotel, which is always the focus of attention, both day and night, is also an unmissable scenic spot. Its popularity is always high, and it has its unique charm. Standing on the hill behind the hotel, you can look out over the city. Looking to the left, you can see the fountain and green river embankment of the riverside park. Looking to the right, you can faintly see the shimmering light on the Keelung River and the distant Guanyin Mountain. Enjoying the dazzling city lights and the quiet, misty night scenery, if you are lucky enough to see a plane flying over the starry sky, it will be a unique private scene you can't find elsewhere. A short trip can give you such a dazzling and rich view. How can you still stay at home?
