The Shangfeng Branch is the first library in Taichung City that focuses on “environmental education” as its thematic特色, and it has also been honored with the “Architecture Garden Award” and the National Excellence Construction Award in 108 for Best Planning and Design – “Excellence Award”. Located next to Shangfeng Elementary School, the library’s red-brick exterior echoes the nearby bright yellow wheat fields and the maple red, creating an ecological grass ditch, native plantings, and an open spatial design that connects indoor and outdoor circulation. It naturally blends into the school and community, making it a beautiful place where people and nature coexist closely. The library’s outdoor area features diverse ecological landscapes, with grazing and nectar plants that attract butterflies and bees, making it an ideal venue for promoting environmental education. The interior design adopts a simple, understated approach to shape the space’s texture, complemented by lightweight neutral furnishings and interiors. Through the changing natural light, readers can experience the rich spatial and environmental qualities of the building itself. Images provided by Taichung City Library.
