Beixi Paper-Cut Art Village makes use of the Chinese traditional art of paper-cutting. Dominated by festive red, its works—great scarlet motifs painted on white walls and utility poles—exude a strong New-Year atmosphere, making it the most holiday-flavored painted village in Taiwan.
Beixi preserves many Minnan-style old buildings, including nearly hundred-year-old courtyard houses whose weathered walls are whitewashed and boldly patterned with red paper-cut motifs. Themes range from fables, the twelve zodiac animals, to seasonal festivals, giving every corner a distinctive, memorable touch.
Frequent temple events draw devoted worshippers, while the paper-cut murals heighten the celebratory mood, adding artistic flair to the streets. Visitors can pray, admire the paper-cut art, and soak up the local culture all at once.
