Gourd, also known as "Hu Zai," is a common agricultural crop in Taiwanese rural areas. Its endearing and delicate appearance makes it a cherished possession, and in the 1990s, Shanlin District promoted gourd arts as a local specialty. Professor He Mingxian has devoted himself to the artistic creation of gourds, dedicating significant effort to research, continuous innovation, and further establishing the Shanlin Gourd Art Exhibition Hall. The exhibition introduces various gourd carving techniques and features display areas for student works. The Gourd Art Museum constantly challenges traditional perceptions, offering a literary series inspired by Tang and Song poetry, and high-end souvenirs in addition to practical items like night lights, pendants, and keychains. It also provides gourd art tours, teaching sessions, and hands-on DIY experiences, making gourd art more diverse and dynamic.
