Joyous Christmas Lane

2024-04-11
台北市北投區石牌路1段71巷15弄及周遭區域
Jiqing Village's "Christmas Alley" has been decorated for 16 years. Its origin dates back to the "San'ai Church" in the community. On the eve of Christmas in 1999, Pastor Lin Gongzhao of the church moved the Christmas tree originally placed inside the church to the outside. The church members in the alley also followed by decorating their front doors with Christmas lights and spreading the good news of Christmas to their neighbors. Later, as more residents were infected by the joyful atmosphere of the holiday, more and more households in the alley joined in. With the careful arrangement and decoration by people such as Li Chang Huang Shengzong of Jiqing Village, carpenter Wen Yongyan, Associate Professor Pan Tongtai of Taipei University of Technology, Pastor Lin Gongzhao and Pastor Hou Shuliang of San'ai Church, the scale of "Christmas Alley" has become larger and its reputation has gradually spread far and wide. Now, every year before Christmas, it has become a customary event for every household in the alley to decorate their homes with Christmas scenes. Every December, the residents of the alley begin to decorate their front doors on their own, and some even start designing and making new shapes or installations several months in advance. The residents of the alley also have an unspoken understanding that the lighting of the decorations will start from the week before Christmas and continue until the Lantern Festival of the next year. The decoration of "Christmas Alley" in Jiqing Village is based on each household, combined with different themed installations, such as the high-speed rail, cable car, helicopter, and yellow duck. Every household's windowsill and courtyard are carefully designed by the residents. In 2014, Jiqing Village's "Christmas Alley" was also voted as one of the "Top Ten Romantic Christmas Attractions" nationwide by netizens.
