Simplified Chinese Japanese English Korean The Li Zhengjiao Invasion Memorial is currently the earliest memorial in the country related to the Japanese invasion of Taiwan. In the First Sino-Japanese War, our country was defeated by Japan. When the Treaty of Ma'ao was signed, Japanese Major General Ito led the first wave of twelve ships to land on Lin Tou. They were repelled by the Chongbei artillery, so four ships were dispatched to the Li Zhengjiao sea area in Longmen Port to launch an attack and cover the landing of the “Mixed Brigade” troops at Li Zhengjiao. After Japan occupied Penghu, a monument was erected in Longmen Li Zhengjiao to commemorate the event, which is the earliest memorial in the country related to the Japanese invasion of Taiwan. The monument is roughly divided into three sections; only the upper part remains today. Later, a foundation was added. The base is square, about one meter on each side, and the height is about two meters, built of granite. In 1945, after the Japanese defeat, the National Government took over and the monument was turned into a land shrine, with the inscription changed to the Taiwan Liberation Memorial.
