~Signature Water Ice~ Heritage ~A Good Taste of Nearly Half a Century~ ~Memories~ Not Just a Visual Nostalgia ~But Also a Culinary Emotion~ "West Head Ice City" was the first ice shop to be established on Xinshi Street. Why was it called "West Head"? It turns out that Zhongxing Road, which ran through Xinshi Street, was the most bustling and prosperous street in Xinshi. The locals were accustomed to calling the eastern half "East Head" and the western half "West Head". The illiterate owner didn't understand the aesthetics of signboards, and since the ice shop was located in the western half, he simply named it "West Head Ice City". The founder, Pan Dajian (born in 1933), was tall and strong, and everyone called him "Daren". He came from a poor family and had to make a living. He would ride a bicycle to the mountains to carry bananas, sweet potatoes, and other miscellaneous grains back to sell, or carry branch ice and taro ice to sell, exchanging them for sweet potatoes to dry and eat. After marriage, he and his wife, Pan Chen Guo (born in 1933), raised four children. As the children grew up, the burden of living expenses and school fees became increasingly heavy. He thought of starting his own business and established "West Head Ice Fruit Room" at No. 142, Zhongxing Street, Xinshi District, Tainan City in 1966.
