Central Old Street is the street where Magong, and even the entire Penghu Islands, first developed. It existed as early as the establishment of Magong city and has a history of more than 400 years. In the past, Central Street was the central focus of Penghu residents’ lives. Today, with the development of Magong City, it has transformed into a tourist old street. To facilitate access to water when the street was developed, local residents collectively dug Penghu's oldest Four-Eyed Well, known locally as the Four-Hole Well. Before the introduction of piped water, it was the main water source for the area. It holds historical significance and was designated as a municipal cultural heritage site for preservation. The lowest level of the well features basalt walls, the upper levels cobbled stone walls, and the top level red brick walls. As for the four round water-drawing openings that gave the well its name, these were created after the well was completed. To prevent residents from falling in while fetching water, granite platforms were constructed, and basalt rings with an inner diameter of about 35 centimeters were carved. These rings also raised the entire well 30 centimeters above the surrounding road. Another Penghu County-designated cultural heritage site on Central Old Street, the Da Yi Tang TCM Clinic, has been passed down through four generations. It was once Penghu’s first traditional Chinese medicine shop to employ a resident TCM doctor and is one of the Central Street landmarks witnessing the colonial era and the splendor of the Republic of China era. However, Da Yi Tang is widely known among tourists for its medicinal broth eggs. Almost every visitor to Central Street is captivated by the aroma of this iconic dish!
