Considering the Great Hanshin Earthquake that occurred in Japan on January 17, 1995, with a magnitude of 7.2 on the Richter scale, resulting in 6,430 deaths, more than 40,000 injuries, and over 510,000 buildings completely or partially destroyed, including public facilities, with losses estimated at about 10 trillion yen, which was the second-largest natural disaster in Japan after the Ise Bay Typhoon, the Taipei City Fire Department was reorganized and established on July 10 of the same year (1984). In order to enhance the public's disaster prevention education and let citizens experience disasters, thereby understanding the importance of disaster prevention, the department started planning and setting up the first disaster science education center in Taiwan. In order to help citizens understand the history and characteristics of various disasters, the Taipei City Fire Department's disaster science education center uses computer, electronic, and mechanical equipment to simulate various disaster scenarios, allowing citizens to experience and operate them in person. This helps integrate emergency knowledge such as fire prevention, flood control, earthquake resistance, and typhoon prevention into daily life, and through an "educational and entertaining" approach, it enhances the public's ability to respond to disasters. It is hoped that after visiting and experiencing, people will be able to share the obtained disaster prevention knowledge and skills with their family and friends, so that everyone can be free from disasters and away from the threat of disasters.
