Gongzitian Creek, commonly known as Beitou Creek, is named for flowing through Gongzitian; in the past it was also called Linzi Creek and jokingly referred to as the “Mother River of Tamsui.” The area along Gongzitian Creek was once called “Dazhuang,” and the route is lined with relics of Tamsui’s development history; it can be considered the earliest Han Chinese settlement in northern Taiwan, dating back to the Dutch colonial period. The right-bank section of Gongzitian Creek lies at the northernmost end of the Tamsui Golden Waterfront Bikeway and serves as the main access to the Tamsui New Town levee for ocean views, stretching roughly 1.2 km. Since the opening of the Tamsui Light Rail Blue Sea Line last year, many visitors have come from Section 3, Binhai Road, or crossed the “Blue Sea Bridge” from the left bank to watch the sunset from the levee. Blue Sea Bridge not only spans the scenic Gongzitian Creek but also offers a direct view of the Taiwan Strait at the estuary. Beside the V10 Tamsui New Town Station, the Haiweizai Bikeway next to the “Seaview Avenue” has become a must-photograph spot for influencers because of its famous sunset shots. If you want a leisurely seaside stroll plus the fun of cycling in the sea breeze, the bike paths around the Tamsui Light Rail are the perfect choice.
