The Model Street was originally the inner military training ground of Zheng Chenggong during the late Ming Dynasty, where he drilled troops in Houpu. In 1924, the Jinmen County Chamber of Commerce raised funds to build it, divided into two parts: the horizontal street and the vertical street, both constructed with red brick arc corridors. Based on the "five-foot base" style introduced from Southeast Asia, the buildings on both sides of the street are two-story shop houses. The first story is a Western-style building, while the second story is a Fujian-style structure. The exterior is neat and elegant, combining the beauty of early 20th century Chinese architecture and Western-style buildings. The layout is very neat, and the single-arched arches present beautiful lines, displaying great architectural artistry. It is an outstanding model, hence the name "Model Street." Nowadays, the Model Street is a mixed residential and commercial area, with many new shops opening up. Besides selling souvenirs, there are also restaurants to choose from, offering travelers a different taste of Kinmen.
