Yellow Butterfly Green Valley is rich in ecological resources, with many ironwood trees (Butea monosperma) suitable for Yellow Butterfly reproduction. Consequently, it attracts caterpillars of the silver-streaked yellow butterfly, which feed primarily on ironwood trees, creating a magical spectacle where tens of thousands of yellow butterflies flutter in the air like a myriad of stars, impressively magnificent. The butterfly species recorded in Yellow Butterfly Green Valley total 110, among which the silver-streaked yellow butterfly and the plain yellow butterfly have held the world record for the highest population density. Initially, the Meinong Reservoir was planned to supply water for the Greater Kaohsiung metropolitan area. However, due to the tropical experimental forest and Yellow Butterfly Green Valley near the dam site, local residents feared that the precious natural ecosystem and cultural assets would be destroyed at once. They formed the "Meinong Patriotic Association" to combine the efforts of local ecological conservation groups and launch waves of petitions and protests. After years of advocacy, the anti-reservoir movement gradually escalated to a water resource conservation movement. Starting in 1995, the "Meinong Yellow Butterfly Festival" has been consecutively held at the Double Streams Yellow Butterfly Green Valley in the original reservoir site to promote environmental education.
